Ransomware Protection
Ransomware is a critical threat that encrypts your files and demands payment for their release. True Protection by Jag includes multi-layered ransomware defense to keep your data safe.
How Ransomware Protection Works
- Behavior-Based Detection: Monitors file system activity for rapid encryption patterns characteristic of ransomware attacks. If a process begins encrypting files at an unusual rate, it is immediately suspended.
- Protected Folders: Designate critical folders (Documents, Photos, Desktop, and others) as protected. Only trusted applications can modify files within these folders.
- Honeypot Files: True Protection places invisible decoy files across your system. If any process modifies these files, it triggers an immediate ransomware alert.
- Automatic Backup: Files targeted by a suspected ransomware process are automatically backed up before modification, allowing instant recovery.
Setting Up Protected Folders
- Step 1: Navigate to Settings > Ransomware Protection.
- Step 2: Click Manage Protected Folders.
- Step 3: Add any folders containing important data you want to protect.
- Step 4: Review the list of trusted applications that are allowed to modify protected files.
Recovery from a Ransomware Attack
If True Protection detects and stops a ransomware process, it will automatically restore any files that were modified during the brief attack window. Navigate to Tools > Ransomware Recovery to review and restore affected files.
