Protecting Virtual Machines with True Protection
True Protection by Jag can be installed inside virtual machines to protect guest operating systems, and it also includes VM-aware features that optimize performance in virtualized environments.
Supported Hypervisors
- VMware: ESXi, Workstation, and Fusion
- Microsoft Hyper-V: Windows Server and Windows 10/11 Hyper-V
- KVM/QEMU: Linux-based virtualization with libvirt
- VirtualBox: Oracle VirtualBox 6.1 and later
- Parallels Desktop: Parallels Desktop for Mac
VM-Aware Optimizations
- Scan Staggering: When multiple VMs are hosted on the same physical server, True Protection staggers scans to prevent all VMs from scanning simultaneously and overwhelming the host.
- Shared Cache: In VMware environments with vShield integration, True Protection can share scan results across VMs to avoid redundant scanning of identical files.
- Resource Limits: Configure CPU and I/O limits specifically for virtual environments to prevent True Protection from consuming excessive host resources.
- Snapshot Awareness: True Protection detects VM snapshots and adjusts behavior to prevent unnecessary re-scanning after snapshot rollbacks.
Installation in VMs
Install True Protection inside each VM just as you would on a physical machine. For best results, enable the Virtual Machine Mode under Settings > Performance > Environment. This enables all VM-specific optimizations automatically.
