Windows Defender Coexistence with True Protection

True Protection by Jag is designed to work alongside Windows Defender (Microsoft Defender Antivirus) on Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems. This dual-layer approach provides enhanced protection without performance conflicts.

How Coexistence Works

  • Automatic Detection: When True Protection is installed, it registers with the Windows Security Center. Windows Defender automatically enters passive mode, allowing True Protection to serve as the primary antivirus.
  • Supplemental Scanning: Windows Defender periodic scanning can remain active as a secondary layer. This provides an additional check using a different detection engine.
  • Unified Notifications: Security alerts from both True Protection and Windows Defender appear in the Windows Security Center for a consistent experience.

Recommended Configuration

  • Option 1 - True Protection Primary (Recommended): True Protection handles all real-time protection. Windows Defender runs periodic scans only. This minimizes resource usage while maximizing detection coverage.
  • Option 2 - Dual Active: Both engines run simultaneously. This provides maximum protection but uses more system resources. Recommended only for high-security environments.
  • Option 3 - True Protection Only: Disable Windows Defender entirely and rely solely on True Protection. Not recommended unless required by organizational policy.

To configure coexistence mode, navigate to Settings > Compatibility > Windows Security in True Protection.
